An Introduction to the Identification of UK Spiders – Michael Davis
BENHS Dinton Pastures – June 8 – 2024, 10:30 – 16:00
During this workshop participants will gain the knowledge to identify many of the common spider families and species encountered in homes and gardens as well as the wider countryside. In addition, participants will learn about the resources available to help with spider identification, tips for examining and storing spider specimens and how to go about recording them. The day will consist of a combination of taught sessions as well as practical sessions looking for spiders around Dinton Pastures and working on identification using microscopes. Most spider species require examination under the microscope to identify to species level and specimen collection will form part of the day. However, if participants do not wish to collect specimens that is fine as there will be live and dead specimens available to examine on the day.
Michael Davis is an invertebrate ecologist and arachnologist. He is the Gloucestershire area organiser for the British Arachnological Society’s Spider and Harvestman Recording Scheme.
Whilst there is no charge for our workshop, nor any need to be a member, by joining you ensure these workshop can continue to be offered.
