Saturday 17th April 2010

BRITISH ENTOMOLOGICAL & NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY REGIONAL MEETING AT THE UNIVERSITY MUSEUM OF ZOOLOGY, CAMBRIDGE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY, UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE
FENLAND INSECTS

This one-day meeting has the theme of Fenland Insects, including a summary of some of the changes over the past 300 years and documenting our changing insect fauna today, the habitat requirements of some fenland moths and a look at the benefits for insects of future fenland restoration initiated by the Great Fen Project. The county BRC is keen to increase contact with local recorders and there are fresh opportunities to get involved with recording insects on fenland nature reserves, as well as many gaps to fill in the known distribution of insects on intensively-managed agricultural areas where many interesting species can still be found. The extensive insect collections of the University Museum of Zoology will be available for inspection; the museum has good facilities for visiting entomologists to study the collections and welcomes visitors as well as donations of insect material.

The meeting will be held in the University Museum of Zoology, Downing Street, Cambridge (via Main Entrance to the Zoology Department on the map below). The railway station has a regular bus service to the centre taking about 10 minutes (alight in St Andrews Street) and Drummer Street Bus Station is 10 minutes walk away. There is nearby car parking in the Lion Yard multi-storey car park, although this is expensive and often crowded on Saturdays. For those coming by car the Park and Ride option is good, with free car parking at five sites (see: http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/transport/around/parkandride/)
